Milton Keynes’ biggest celebration of independent writing brought together 100 independently published authors and small presses, transforming Middleton Hall into a vibrant marketplace of stories, creativity and community.

​

The Indie Book Fair offered something for everyone, from lifelong readers, curious browsers and families looking for a fun day out to those on the hunt for early Christmas gifts, or who love discovering new voices. There was an extraordinary mix of fiction, non‑fiction, and everything in between: crime, mystery, fantasy, Young Adult, children’s books, poetry, self‑help, memoir, sci‑fi, humour, essays, travel writing, and more.

Adult Panels and Readings

Alongside the bustling marketplace of books and the lively children’s programme, the MK Indie Book Fair hosts a series of thought‑provoking panels and back‑to‑back live readings from some of the most exciting indie voices writing today.

​

11:00–11:45 – Indie Publishing Today

How small presses, micro presses, and self‑publishing authors are reshaping the UK book landscape.

Kick off the day with a dynamic conversation about the future of publishing. Hosted by Donna Scott (The Slab Press), this panel brings together indie champions – John Ironmonger, T. G. Campbell, Soniah Elijah and Lauren MacRae – to explore how independent creators are transforming the literary world. Expect candid insights, practical advice, and a celebration of the creativity of the indie scene.

Rolling Author Readings (12:00–15:00)

Throughout the early afternoon, the stage comes alive with a showcase of indie talent. From gripping fiction to heartfelt memoir, bold genre writing to sharp, surprising poetry.

These readings offer the perfect chance to discover new voices, sample fresh stories, and meet the writers behind the books you’ll want to take home.

15:15–16:00 – Worldbuilding Across Genres

Fantasy, sci‑fi, horror, and speculative writers share techniques for building immersive worlds

Close the afternoon with a deep dive into the imaginative world of genre. Hosted again by Donna Scott (The Slab Press), this panel brings together a stellar lineup – Benjamin Langley, Tim Dalgliesh, Daniel Li of Sinoist Books, Auran Lyonheart, Chris Towndrow and  Liisa Sabah– for a conversation about crafting believable, compelling worlds across genres.

From magic systems to future tech, eerie atmospheres to alternate histories, this session explores how writers build places readers never want to leave. Perfect for fans, aspiring authors, and anyone fascinated by the architecture of storytelling.

 

Children’s Workshops & Live Readings Throughout the Day

Alongside the main fair, families can enjoy a lively programme of interactive workshops, mini‑readings, and creative adventures designed to spark imagination and build confidence in young readers and creators. You can book workshop places in advance, or join us on the day!​​
