Dreams for Midwinter
Submissions/Terms and Conditions
As part of our online events programme, we will be hosting a special event on the evening of Thursday 21 December– the Winter Solstice – on the theme of A Dream for Midwinter.
The theme is yours to interpret as you wish: we just want to see your best writing.
Entry is free: submissions open in September, and details are given below.

What you need to know

All entrants must be aged 14 or older, and must live or work or study in an MK postcode

All entries must be written in English. Work should be original and not previously published

Stories and poems must reflect the theme: A Dream for Midwinter. You are free to interpret that as creatively as you wish.

Flash fiction must be no longer than 500 words. There is no minimum word limit. Only one flash fiction entry per writer. Any genre is acceptable, e.g. mystery, romance, science fiction, history.

Poems must be no more than 40 lines. All types of poem are welcome: free verse, rhyming, haiku, sonnet, etc. You can submit a maximum of three poems, which should be in a single document.

Entries should be submitted in Microsoft Word, RTF or Plain Text formats, as an attachment to an email

All work should be typed in Arial size 12 font and should include a word or line count.

Writers must not include their name on any part of their attachments, as entries will be selected anonymously.

We aim to select 10-12 pieces to be read as part of the online event on Thursday 21 Decemer: you must be available to take part in the event if your submitted piece is selected

Please do not submit material that would not receive a cinematic rating of 15 or less or would not be broadcast pre-watershed

The selection panel cannot correspond with entrants or give feedback on submissions.

What you need to do

All entries should be submitted as an attachment to an email and sent to mklitfestonline@gmail.com

Please type Midwinter Submission in the email subject line and specify whether the submission is a) flash fiction, b) poetry or c) flash fiction and poetry. If you wish to submit both flash fiction and poetry, please send them in separate documents. You can submit them together in one email.
