Community Engagement

We`re looking for your community`s help.

At MK Lit Fest, we have given a platform to a wide range of voices, from our opening headliner, Linton Kwesi Johnson, through Lemn Sissay, Sarfraz Manzoor, Lady Velo, Priti Taneja, Mary Jean Chan, Polari Literary Salon, Courttia Newland and many more.

Nevertheless, we are conscious our audiences are neither as diverse as we would like nor as diverse as our city.

As part of our move to year-round programming, we want to develop a community-based strand that promotes writing and celebrating the cultural heritage of Milton Keynes' many communities.

Beside all forms of fiction and non-fiction, poetry, song-writing, story-telling and street culture all powerful word media.

We`re looking for:

  • organisations to help with local workshops, particularly with young people

  • lively individuals who could lead local workshops for their communities, using any or all types of writing

  • people willing to tell their own and their communities' stories

We`ll know we`re succeeding when we see:

  • organisations helping tell their communities' stories;

  • individuals empowered to write their stories and celebrate who they are

  • platforms where those stories can be told, locally and at MK Lit Fest

  • programmes that resonate across communities, reflected in wider audiences.

If you’re interested, please contact us to tell us about yourself and to ask us questions about how you might be able to help.
